I am an individual that has had a lot of eye surgery and I saw two different providers in the southern tier and none of them would do anything to enhance my vision. So they referred me to DePaolis and Ryan to have contacts, because my contacts are hard contacts, because of the eye surgery it is a specialized field. They said they were the best in New York , definitely the experts in the area.
Anytime Dr. DePaolis or Ryan were making a correction to the lense they were explaining in detail what they were doing and why they were doing it. I'm not used to that in the Southern Tier, it's this is what we can do and that's it.
At Visionary Eye Associates they have a piece of equipment that actually measures the shape of the eye and the curvature of the eye. It's all done with lasers and electronics that is totally amazing. That gives them a lead on what shape of the contact to actually put in your eye. That piece of equipment made it a lot easier.
My vision was 20x300 in my one eye and the other eye was about 20x60. And that is below driving vision. I know have it back to 20x30 and 20x50 which allows me to drive and lead a pretty normal life. Even my reading is better. I have a technical job that requires a lot of reading and a lot of computer work. I can do that now very easily.
I felt the whole office works as a team. They are personable, they care about the people they are working with. You can feel that when you walk into the place. The customer comes first, anyone will drop what they are doing and deal with your issues at a heart beat."

Seeing for most people isn't a struggle. You don't have to think about seeing, you don't have to try to see. You just see. But I was always trying to see something that I couldn't see. So I could drive or read or do something that I wanted to do just as a part of running my everyday life. I don't' have to try to see anymore it is just there and available to me.
I can remember one time being fitted with the contacts. I'm not usually lost for words but there was a striking difference from what I had been seeing and what I was seeing. It wasn't that I could just read the eye chart; things were not just clearer but it was all different. It was like I had not experienced things before.
Before if I was walking down the street and had someone across the street wave to me I couldn't recognize who they were. You know now, I mean that has all changed all I can say it is a tremendous relief. It's like taking a big sigh. It has changed a lot. My vision isn't perfect by any means but it's good enough that I can do my work and I can interact with people much more easily.
I challenge anyone to find that type of expertise and commitment anywhere else. I don't think they have to look because we have Dr. DePaolis and Ryan here. It's definitely a standard in medical care that I think is really unusual. And I have happily been the beneficiary of that.
I know that Dr. DePaolis studies new technology and he works to stay up to date in intense conferences and lectures. On different nutritional and medical advancements. And that is really important because if there is anything that he can advise his patients to do to help them and there is any science behind it he will tell you so you can avail yourself to what is out there.
It was a long haul. And in some ways you know I'm really grateful for that. Because it really showed me that long haul, how committed they were to working with me and not giving up.
It's a very caring practice. Everybody who works in the office I feel has been very respectful and very professional. It's my problem but they take my problem seriously. They are responsive, they take my phone call and they get back to me and they are proactive about things.

I would say the one thing that stands out about Visionary Eye Associates as a whole is that they really work together. They try their best to meet the patients' needs. Everybody there is friendly and welcoming... they knew me by name. And really all of them together wanted to see me experience more comfortable eyes.
Prior to going to Visionary, it was getting to the point where I was in so much pain from wearing contact lenses that I kept going back to my previous eye doctor a number of times. He said that there was nothing that he could do for me and that I could no longer tolerate contact lenses and that I would have to switch to glasses permanently. I knew then that I wanted a second opinion.
I would have been uncomfortable having to permanently wear glasses again. I have been accustom to wearing contacts for so many years that it is quite difficult to wear glasses on a regular basis. I don't like the way they look on me first of all but second of all I feel I don't see as well because I am so used to wearing contacts. That would have been a big change for me, it would have made a big difference in my life and I'm just happy that I can wear contacts again with the help of Dr. Ryan at Visionary Eye Associates.
First time I went to Dr. Ryan he said "We'll figure this out. I don't think that this means you can't wear contacts forever. I just need your patience and dedication and we'll find a solution". And he was right.
I have seen a number of eye doctors over the years having lived in different cities. And I would say what stands out most about Dr. Ryan is his persistence and constant dedication to the patient. He doesn't give up very easily. He says he knows there is a solution out there and he is going to find it. And he keeps working at it until he does.
